CM Sindh Orders Announces Rs. 2.59 Billion for Major Road Project

CM Sindh Orders

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has ordered the immediate release of Rs. 2.59 billion to accelerate progress on the Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam dual carriageway project, a 31.4-kilometre road scheme worth Rs. 9.28 billion aimed at improving regional connectivity and transport efficiency.

Presiding over a high-level meeting to review Sindh’s development portfolio, the chief minister stressed the need to fast-track completion of key infrastructure projects jointly undertaken by the federal and provincial governments, with assistance from foreign development partners.

“Road infrastructure forms the backbone of Sindh’s economic development. People must see tangible progress on the ground. Our priority is to complete projects that directly serve the public and strengthen connectivity,” Murad Ali Shah said.

Focus on Major Road Projects Across Sindh

The meeting reviewed progress on several strategic infrastructure projects, including:

  • Sindh Coastal Highway (36 km) — A Rs. 3.7 billion project with Rs. 2.6 billion federal and Rs. 1 billion provincial funding. The CM termed it a “strategic lifeline for coastal development” and directed completion by June 2027.
  • Rohri–Guddu Barrage Road (105 km) — A Rs. 17.79 billion project designed to connect upper Sindh with southern Punjab, improving trade and transport efficiency.
  • Mehran Highway (Nawabshah–Ranipur, 135 km) — A Rs. 41.03 billion corridor critical for intra-provincial trade. The CM ordered its completion by June 2027.
  • Sanghar–Rohri Road (via Mudh Jamrao and Salehput, 221 km) — A Rs. 35.08 billion project with Rs. 1.12 billion provincial contribution. Shah said the project would “open new opportunities for rural communities and boost agricultural trade.”

ADB-Assisted Flood Reconstruction Programme

The chief minister also reviewed the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-assisted Sindh Flood Emergency Reconstruction Project (EFAP) — a Rs. 48.4 billion initiative approved by Ecnec in December 2022 and launched in January 2024.

Covering 724 km of flood-damaged roads, the project has already achieved 538 km completion, with 96% of Sindh’s Rs. 4.25 billion share utilized.

The revised PC-I, currently under consideration, proposes expanding the project to 873 km with an updated cost of Rs. 62.53 billion, accounting for additional works and tax adjustments.
